Embarking on a Movement

By Jeff Arnold, Chairman and CEO

On Thursday, we announced a very large and innovative partnership with the Atlanta Hawks to create the Sharecare Movement, an initiative focused on measurably improving the health of people in the city of Atlanta and across the state of Georgia. The Sharecare Movement stemmed in part from the three-year pilot program introduced by the NBA to place logos of sponsoring companies on team jerseys. An impressive group of companies already have announced such “jersey patch” deals, including Harley-Davidson with the Milwaukee Bucks, Goodyear and the Cavs, GE and the Celtics and Disney with the Magic. And beginning with the 2017-18 season, the Sharecare logo grace Hawks jerseys – but the Hawks and Sharecare decided from the start that our partnership would be about much more than just a logo. Together, we would start a movement to drive better health, and put everything we had against it — with Sharecare providing the digital health tools and the Hawks providing the inspiration to help each person be their healthiest self.

Our hope is that other leaders in Georgia will join us in this effort to transform the health and wellness of our state, so we, along with the Hawks, are collaborating to onboard corporate partners to foster powerful connection points across the community and extend the reach of the Sharecare Movement.

As Dr. Oz told USA Today about this initiative, “what we’re embarking on may sound like a 2020 vision, but by partnering with the Hawks we’re making it a 2017 reality.”
